It doesn't look like much from the street and it's not terribly cozy inside either, but the quality of the food and service makes up for lacking ambiance. You get a huge portion for what you pay for; I got chicken pad Thai both times I went and it was overflowing my plate and gave me two days of leftovers. Delicious and authentic flavors! My friend got the seafood pho and said it was so flavorful and yummy. We also shared crab rangoons and veggie egg rolls which were piping hot and really good! The waitresses are so sweet and accommodating. The only issue I had was that they were out of all of the wines on the menu. They also have a really great lunch special I wouldn't miss!

It was hard to say how the food was going to be. They don't have a website, prices vary depending on where you look and the reviews for the food was all over.
We ordered pad thai and it was ok, I guess we were underwhelmed. For how slow they were, I would have expected a little better. Also, our crab rangoons were burnt so that was extremely disappointing.
We were also shocked one plate and the rangoons totaled to $20. -

Elephant Café is probably my favorite Thai restaurant in Milwaukee. The food is good, and most meals are a good value for the cost and portion. The service is friendly but can be a little slow. The location is great for us as we live walking distance, however street parking in the area can sometimes be an issue.
I usually order the curry (green, yellow or ginger) with tofu from Elephant Café. The tofu is excellent, especially in the curry sauce. Other favorites of ours have been the spring rolls, Crying Tiger, and the Black Pepper Pork Chops. Most meals are enough food for two portions (leftovers the next day!). We've tried the spice level from 1 (flavorful but not super spicy) to 3 (pretty darn spicy but not overwhelming).
My only complaint has been inconsistencies with ordering take-out. We have received the wrong dish (something completely different from what was ordered) and not discovered until getting home. More recently, we did the Black Pepper Pork Chops only to come home with one pork chop (the order is two), so that was disappointing. Especially when you get home and aren't able to return.
All-in-all, Elephant Café serves up some delicious Thai food at reasonable prices. I would recommend checking it out, but I would consider ordering to dine-in or at least peeking at your food before you leave. -

I had given this place a glowing 5 stars just 6 months ago. It was great. Great service, great food, happy me. However, the last four times I've gone it has slipped. It slipped so badly that last visit we had to send back the Tom Kha and the cucumber salad for being simply awful. The service was poor and even the Thai Ice Teas were slapped together without care. I was told they hired a new chef and that their sister restaurant should be better to visit. C'mon, Elephant, you're making me look bad for raving about you. You have a great location and clearly some good people running you. Step it up!

I love elephant cafe and is my Thai place of choice (mainly because it is steps away from my house), but also because they give you a ton of food for the normal Thai dish price. I stick to the pad see ewe and it is delicious. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it isn't necessarily a place I would sit down and dine in. When I've been, there have only been a max of 2 tables seated. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though since service must be fast and besides, Thai food sometimes tastes better eaten on the couch and in front of the tv anyway. I'll be back for sure!
